SEE ME CORP. suggests you consider the use of rechargeable NiMH (Nickel Metal Hydride) batteries.  There is no end of Alkaline and Lithium AA batteries available worldwide, many of high quality ,offering great performance in SEE ME™.  Numerous retailers sell large quantities of Alkaline AA batteries in bulk packs.  Some brands are a smart buy, but Alkalines have to be disposed of once discharged.  NiMH batteries can be recharged up to 1000 times, before you will need to replace them.  A backup set of Alkaline batteries can plug in as direct replacements if you find yourself where the charger cannot be plugged into an energy source. 

Rechargeable NiMH batteries come with an AC to DC charger (for use with a.c. power), or a DC to DC charger (for use with DC power in a vehicle).  Some chargers come with both power connections.  In normal use, rechargeable batteries should be topped off after about twelve hours of use.  Leaving batteries in most chargers between uses will not harm them (read any instructions supplied with your charger).  The rapid chargers we have tested with satisfactory results, will quickly charge four batteries simultaneously.  Note that Solar chargers are available for rechargeable AA batteries, but they charge slowly.  At the high-end, there are eight-battery, rapid chargers, but they are expensive.

Under normal use (without repeatedly killing the batteries completely dead), high-quality rechargeable NiMH AA batteries should serve well through up to 1000 recharges.  Read our page on Batteries & Chargers for information about our experiences with retail chargers.  Certain high-reliability “quick” chargers will recharge the batteries, literally in a matter of minutes, from AC power, or through DC power from an automobile cigarette lighter plug-in.

NiMH batteries are non-toxic as regards disposal considerations, but we recommend that all batteries be discarded through a local recycler such as those you can find on RBRC.COM.
